How to give your home a Glow-Up!

Is it time to paint the exterior of your home? If it is, I am sure you have had the following thoughts:

  • Should I keep the same color or change it up?

  • If I change the color, what color do I choose?

  • Will I need to contact HOA about my color choices?

  • Who can I contact to help me choose colors I like?

I hope this article will help you in deciding the next step to take. Let's go through each question.

  1. Should I keep the same color or change it up? The picture shown, was a home that the homeowners had lived in for a few years. They weren't in love with the original color and wanted to choose a color that updated the look of their exterior. During the consultation, the following features were considered: Fixtures such as the roof shingles, stone, and window trim needed to be considered so it did not clash with the new paint color. We also needed to consider the color of the deck (not shown - located in the back). The homeowners wanted the siding, front door, garage, and shutters painted. Since the window trim, fascia, soffits, gutters, downspouts, and porch ceiling was white, we made sure to keep those the same color.

  2. If I change the color what color should I choose? To help my clients determine the best color combo before any paint was used, I used the Sherwin Williams ColorSnapVisualizer. The homeowners decided on using the following Sherwin Williams colors: Wool Skein ( SW 6148) was used on the siding; Indigo Batik (SW 7602) on the Front door and shutters, and Universal Khaki (SW 6159) on the Garage Door.

  3. Will I need to contact my HOA? During the consultaion, I asked my client if her HOA had a designated list of paint colors she had to use. She indicated she only needed to submit her color choices to her HOA for approval. My client went through the necessary steps with her HOA. Once she obtained approval, her painters started their work.

  4. Who do I contact to help me choose my exterior paint color? Make sure to choose a certified Color Consultant to help you make the best paint color choices for your home.
